St James’ Church, Delhi

Here are a few photos and a short video that I took when I visited St James’ Church (Skinners Church) near Kashmiri Gate, Delhi in 2015.

St James’ Church is also known as Skinner’s Church as was built by Colonel James Skinner in 1836. It is one of the oldest churches in the Delhi and is situated near Kashmiri Gate, at the intersection of Church Road and Lothian Road.

The church was designed by design of Major Robert Smith. The copper ball and cross on the top were damaged during the 1857 revolt by soldiers using it as target practice, but were later replaced.

Read more about the history of St James’ Church on Wikipedia.

More photos of memorials were taken by others in our group and will be placed on the Families in British India Society website when transcribed.

My apologies for the poor quality of the video.
